An Evening with BOVET: Purity, Craftsmanship and the Connection with Virtuoso X Bovet 1822 impressed me from the very beginning with the excellence of its beautiful design. While I'm a big fan of the big brands (VC, JLC, Cartier, PP), the connection I make with independent brands is something you can't find elsewhere. Mr. Pascal Raffy proudly launched Virtuoso X at the end of 2019. Virtuoso has accumulated two centuries of art such as engraving, miniature painting and watchmaking technology, and was (and still is) a model of high-end watchmaking. But the story isn't over yet. Engraved Amadeo® case
The model shown showcases a floral pattern that appears throughout the case. Its construction is more like a pocket watch than a wristwatch. It provides a large rounded border which increases the difficulty of engraving. The same applies to the “case back” that doubles as a desk clock.

The lugs also pay attention to detail. The end cabochons only add to the charm. The top lug uses two buttons to release the strap and can accommodate a chain for pocket wear or, as we saw on the Miss Audrey, a pendant chain. With the help of a pusher, opening the back case fully releases the bottom lugs, just like a traditional pocket watch. Please watch the video for a demonstration.

Fleurisanne and bris de verre styles were the most common decorative patterns on Bovet timepieces during the 19th century. There's a subtle hammering around the cut, creating a gorgeous three-dimensional effect. This is where connections are made. I was referring at the beginning of the article to the close connection between craftsmen and collectors. Every cut, every pattern, every decoration bears the unique signature of the craftsman. A connoisseur can recognize his "personal" craftsman's favorite work of art. The carver cannot escape his unique style of pressure, speed and approach. You can meet and greet the artisan and connect with her/him through the details. Three works of art, two faces
With patented one-minute flight control, the dial displays the time in a variety of ways. The first dial features a half-moon “guilloché” pattern. The dial is decorated with printed indexes and some hand-applied gold Roman numerals. The brand's name is displayed in gold letters on the screw plate. The name of the watch is printed in black. The contrast between the brushed panels and thermally blued screws is part of the rich detailing that characterizes Bovet 1822.

Two additional time zones
The two auxiliary time zones are harmoniously displayed on the horizontal axis on the front of the watch. They indicate the time in the city chosen by the owner. Twenty-four cities are visible through a rectangular aperture above the brushed 24-hour scale. The hemispherical globe is hand-painted with luminous paint that glows in the dark. As with engraving, the craftsman has a unique signature that can be used for custom painting.

The second time zone is displayed using a manually curved red hand. A clever combination of correctors allows each of the 24 time zones to take into account both daylight and winter time. The corrector is elegantly integrated into the side of the case. www.proreviewwatch.co

The running seconds hand uses a rounded bevel at the lower edge of the dial. The gold hand fixed to the flying tourbillon cage executes and indicates only twenty seconds. Oddly, only one hand is used, although the other two arms have some excellent counterweights (very pointy, but nicely chamfered and polished).

"Back" face
While the “front” surface features the second and third time zones with hand-printed subdials, the “back” surface allows the engraver’s skill to shine through. The depth of the engraving is extraordinary and the pattern runs uninterrupted across the bridges of the movement, creating a striking contrast with the dial and enabling incredible readability.

The time is displayed on a full dial with a full set of Roman numerals. We find the brand name again, but with a “10 Days” power reserve and the proud words “Swiss Handcrafted”. Two golden hands hover over a dreamy blue lacquered guilloche pattern.
